Ningbo takes pride in its abundance of exceptional talents across various fields including industry, commerce, science, education, culture, health, and sports. Its people are increasingly gaining recognition both domestically and internationally, making remarkable contributions and achieving extraordinary accomplishments.

Ningbo is renowned for its profound culture of valuing knowledge, championing innovation, and honoring talent. The coastal city boasts an extraordinary academic environment, as evidenced by its distinguished residents, including the esteemed scientists Tu Youyou and Gu Fangzhou. Additionally, with the remarkable presence of 122 CAS and CAE academicians (as of 2025), Ningbo emerges as a frontrunner in academia across China.

童第周享誉海内外的卓越生物学家、教育家、实验胚胎学家，20世纪生物科学研究的杰出领导者，被誉为“中国克隆之父”，是中国科学院首批院士。

T.C. Tung was a distinguished biologist, educator, and experimental embryologist, standing out as a prominent figure in the realm of biological sciences in the 20th century. Revered as the "Father of Chinese Cloning, " he earned recognition as one of the inaugural CAS academicians.

贝时璋中国生物物理学的奠基人，中国早期细胞学研究专家，致力于动物个体发育、细胞常数等研究，创立“细胞重建学说”，为中国生命科学事业作出了杰出贡献。

Shitsan Pai was a pioneering founder of Chinese biophysics. As an early Chinese expert in cytology, Pai dedicated himself to the exploration of animal development and cell constancy. He notably established the theory of cell reformation.

谈家桢国际著名遗传学家，中国现代遗传学奠基人之一，在复旦大学建立了中国第一个遗传学专业、第一个遗传学研究所、第一个生命科学学院。

C.C. Tan was a internationally celebrated geneticist and a major founder of modern genetics in China. It was under his visionary leadership that Tan established the country's first genetics program, first genetics research institute, and first School of Life Sciences at Fudan University.

路甬祥流体传动与控制专家，浙江大学原校长，中国科学院原院长，提出“系统流量检测力反馈”等原理，开发出系列新型电液控制器件与工程系统，推动电液控制技术取得重要进展。

Lu Yongxiang, a distinguished expert in fiuid transmission and control, served as the former president of Zhejiang University and the former CAS president. He spearheaded the principle of "system flow detection and feedback" and the development of groundbreaking electro-hydraulic control devices and engineering systems, significantly advancing electro-hydraulic control technology.

屠呦呦中国中医科学院首席科学家、诺贝尔生理学或医学奖得主、共和国勋章获得者，60多年来致力于中医药研究实践，带领团队先驱性地发现青蒿素，是首位获得诺贝尔奖的中国本土科学家。

Tu Youyou, Chief Scientist of the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine, is highly esteemed as a Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine and a recipient of the prestigious Order of the Republic. She has been dedicating over six decades to advancing Chinese medicine research, in which she led a pioneering research team in the discovery of artemisinin, a major breakthrough in the battle against malaria. Her noteworthy achievements earned her the distinction of being the first scientist of Chinese Mainland to receive a Nobel Prize.

近现代以来，宁波文艺界百花齐放，无论是笔墨丹青、传统戏曲，还是当代乐坛、妙手文章，在各领域都涌现出不少大师级人物。他们彰显了宁波城市的人文魅力，也架起了东西方文明沟通的桥梁，提升了世界文化艺术的多样性。

In modern times, Ningbo's literary and artistic circles have witnessed a vibrant renaissance, fostering numerous masters in various fields. From the captivating brushwork of ink painting and the mesmerizing performances of traditional opera to the soulful melodies of contemporary music and the profound prose of remarkable writings, a diverse tapestry of talent has flourished, enriching the cultural landscape of Ningbo and beyond. Their influence has infused the city of Ningbo with a rich humanistic charm, concurrently establishing a bridge of communication and understanding between Eastern and Western civilizations. In doing so, they contribute to the diversity of global culture and art.

周信芳京剧表演艺术家，京剧“麒派”艺术创始人，为京剧艺术的传承和发展作出了重要贡献，与梅兰芳先生一道被誉为“梅芳麒韵”。

Zhou Xinfang was a celebrated Peking Opera actor, and in particular, founder of the "Qi" school — a unique vocal style. He played a significant role in elevating Peking opera to new heights. Zhou and Mei Lanfang are collectively recognized as greatest Peking Opera performers of the 20th century.

潘天寿美术家、教育家，现代中国画教学的主要奠基人，擅长写意花鸟、山水，偶作人物，对诗词、篆刻、画论、画史等均有精深的研究。

Pan Tianshou,  an accomplished fine artist and educator,  enjoyed a distinguished reputation as a preeminent figure in the realm of modern Chinese painting pedagogy. Renowned for his expertise in depicting birds, flowers, landscapes, and occasionally figures, his artistic prowess extends beyond the canvas. He has made significant contributions to the fields of poetry, seal carving, painting theories, and the historical study of painting, leaving an indelible mark on the world of Chinese art.

沙孟海当代书法大师，书法艺术驰名海内外，在史学、语言文字学、考古学、书学、印学等方面卓有建树，历任中国书法家协会副主席、西泠印社社长、浙江省博物馆名誉馆长。

Sha Menghai was a renowned contemporary calligraphy master whose art is celebrated both domestically and internationally. His exceptional achievements span various fields, including history, language and philology, archeology, epigraphy, and seal science. He had served as Vice Chairman of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, President of the Xiling Seal Engravers' Society (XSES), and Honorary Director of the Zhejiang Provincial Museum.

陈逸飞著名画家、导演和文化实业家，专注于中国题材油画的研究与创作，在电影、服饰、艺术设计等诸多方面取得创造性成就。

Chen Yifei was a noted painter, director and cultural industrialist. With a specialized focus on researching and creating China-themed paintings, Chen had attained impressive achievements in such fields as film, fashion, and art design.

冯骥才中国当代作家、画家、社会活动家，出版作品集近百种，被译成英、法、德、意、日、俄等十余种文字，画作有“现代文人画”之称。近年来，他热衷投身于城市历史文化保护事业。

Feng Jicai is a contemporary Chinese writer, painter and social activist. His works have been translated into over ten languages, including English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Russian. In addition, his paintings are praised as "modern literati paintings". In recent years, he has been passionately involved in the preservation of urban historical and cultural heritage.

余秋雨中国当代作家、学者，以擅写历史文化散文著称，为中国了解世界、世界了解中国搭建新的桥梁，著有《行者无疆》《千年一叹》等。

Yu Qiuyu is a contemporary Chinese writer and scholar. He has gained abroad readership for his historical and cultural prose, building new bridges for the mutual understanding between China and other parts of the world. His representative works are Travel No End (2001) and A Sigh in Millennium (2002), etc.
